As per para 6 of the MOP Resolution F. No. 23/21/2021-R&R dated 3rd December 2021 and corrigendum dated 17th December 2021, published in the Gazette of India, ERPC are carrying out following functions-
- To undertake Regional Level operation analysis for improving grid performance.
- To facilitate inter-state/inter-regional transfer of power.
- To facilitate all functions of planning relating to inter-state/ intra-state transmission system with CTU/STU. 3A- To provide views on the inter-state transmission system planned by CTU within 45 days of receipt of the proposal by the concerned RPC. The views of RPC will be considered by National Committee on Transmission for sending their recommendation to Ministry of Power for approval of new inter-state transmission system.
- To coordinate planning & maintenance of generating machines of various generating companies of the region including those of inter-state generating companies supplying electricity to the Region on an annual basis and also to undertake review of maintenance programme on a monthly basis.
- To undertake planning of outage of transmission system on a monthly basis.
- To undertake operational planning studies including protection studies for stable operation of the grid.
- To undertake planning for maintaining proper voltages through review of reactive compensation requirement through system study committee and monitoring of installed capacitors.
- To evolve consensus on all issues relating to economy and efficiency in the operation of power system in the region.
In addition to the above, various functions have been entrusted on ERPC through IEGC 2023, other government regulations and by Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC), Ministry of Power (MoP) etc.
