In accordance with the Electricity Act, 2003, RPCs have been constituted by the Central Government for the specified Region(s) for facilitating the Integrated operation of the power system in the Region. The Secretariat of the ERPC is headed by the Member Secretary, who is appointed by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Ministry of Power, Govt. of India. Other officers and staffs for the ERPC Secretariat are also appointed by Central Electricity Authority (CEA) as per the established Govt. Of India resolution. Under section 29(4) of the Electricity Act, 2003, the Eastern Regional Power Committee in the region may, from time to time, agree on matters concerning the stability and smooth operation of the integrated grid and economy and efficiency in the operation of the power system in that region.
